Most subcontractors run their business on Excel, Gmail, and gut feel.

The software that exists is either priced for the biggest contractors (think Procore) or built for no trade in particular. Tensile is built to run a subcontractor's whole operation, from bid to closeout.

What it does today

Tensile is in its early stages. Here's what you can actually use today.

Bids, from open to awarded
Bids move through a clear lifecycle — open, submitted, awarded, or lost — with the GC, closing date, and trade scope kept with each bid. Undo any status change if you need to.
Drawings, specs, and quotes
Upload the files for a bid, up to 100 MB each, and keep them with the job they belong to. Sorting them as a drawing, a spec, or a quote is a click away. Anyone on your team can download any of them.
Suppliers and RFQs
Keep your suppliers in a directory, filed by category. Choose who gets the RFQ, check the list and files, and send — each one goes out with your company's name on it. The drawings and specs go as secure download links, so nothing bounces for size, and you can see at a glance how many suppliers have actually confirmed they're bidding.
Addenda
Record each addendum by number with its file and notes. Mark it distributed and Tensile keeps how many RFQ recipients were on the bid at that point, so you can see what went out and to how many suppliers.
AI briefing
AI reads the drawings and specs, flags what looks off (a spec copied from another job, a drawing referenced but missing), and drafts the questions to ask the GC before you bid. Powered by Claude, from Anthropic.
Project management
An awarded bid becomes a project with its own RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, time tracking, site photos, and issue flagging. Field crews clock in, request materials, and flag problems from their phone's browser, with the job's financials kept off their screens.
Installs like an app
Add Tensile to your phone's home screen and it opens in its own window, without the browser's address bar. No app store, nothing to download.

Mechanical and electrical for now, with other trades maybe down the road. Pick the scopes you're quoting on each bid. Your suppliers live in one address book, sorted by trade, and a whole list goes on an RFQ in a couple of clicks.

Why I'm building it

I'm a licensed tradesperson with 22 years across the field and the office, about 10 of them estimating. I know what submission day looks like in a shop our size: supplier prices landing an hour before close (if we're lucky), a full inbox, a spreadsheet, and whatever you can keep in your head.

What's out there is either priced for contractors much bigger than us, or wasn't built with any particular trade in mind. So I'm building a tool that I wanted for myself, built around what a shop our size actually needs, at a price that makes sense.
